Black Ink: The Charleston African American Book Festival
Nearly 40 African-American authors and hundreds of book club members and readers will converge at Burke High School for the 1st annual Black Ink: The Charleston African American Book Festival on September 17, 2016. The event is from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. and will feature a keynote address from Marcus Amaker, Charleston’s first poet laureate.
Featured authors include:
• Dr. Katie B. Catalon- Author of John ‘L’ the Tall Man
• Ron Daise- Author of Little Muddy Waters
• Damon Fordham- Author of True Stories of Black South Carolina
• Sherman Pyatt- Author of Burke High School (1894-2006), Charleston, SC
In addition, highlights of the Festival include:
• A Workshop on writing and self-publishing
• Spoken Word Poetry Slam
• A Panel featuring renowned African American authors
• A Book Sale
Black Ink: The Charleston African American Book Festival is sponsored by YWCA, the YMCA of Greater Charleston, The Tri-County Women’s Project, Inc., and the Charleston Friends of the Library.
General admission to the event is FREE to the public and includes all author exhibits, featured author sessions, workshops/ seminars and entertainment.
