The Carolina Youth Action Project

Girls Rock Charleston announces some exciting news:

From our humble beginnings in 2011 as a week-long music camp for girls and transgender youth, Girls Rock Charleston has always strived to think bigger and broader about what young people in South Carolina need to feel free, safe, and whole, together. Now, in 2017, our organization is expanding faster than ever.

It is with our greatest pleasure that we share with you our transition from Girls Rock Charleston to the Carolina Youth Action Project!

We need you to invest in this visionary project by joining us as a monthly supporter. If each of our subscribers donates just $25 a month, we could fully cover the costs of our summer camp and our year-round youth organizing programming.

As the Carolina Youth Action Project (CYAP), we are:

  • continuing to lift the voices of girls, transgender, and gender non-conforming youth by providing high-quality art, music, and political education programs
  • resourcing and training young feminist and anti-racist organizers
  • organizing against the criminalization of young people through our participation in a state-wide Raise the Age campaign
  • supporting the development of community-based alternative to incarceration programs that keep young people out of prison and safe at home
  • building power to confront the forces of racism, transphobia, homophobia, and sexism in South Carolina by resourcing and centering the leadership of girls and trans youth of color – because we believe that the young people most affected by injustice are best positioned to transform our city and state into a place where all of us are free, and have what we need.
