CharlestonGOOD 2.0 – the Evolution of #Goodsharing

(required reading for the GOOD & GOODSHARING Community)

Hey folks,
We implemented a lot of changes this summer and are really excited to share our updates with you!

Four years ago, we launched CharlestonGOOD in response to what we saw as a huge need to amplify the voice of locals working in different ways to make Charleston an amazing place to live… for everyone. Our focus was on promoting positive people, projects and possibilities with an emphasis on collaboration.

This summer, we realized that we could follow our own motto and “reduce redundancy and increase impact” by refocusing our energy on building stronger collaborations.

So for starters, we’ve partnered with Holy City Sinner to develop a collaborative calendar for local “changemakers.”

CHANGEMAKERS-CALENDAR-BOX

This is a win-win-win for us, for HCS and for the grassroots community that is our focus. The CHANGEMAKERS CALENDAR is embedded on both CharlestonGOOD.com and HolyCitySinner.com, which means there is more meaningful content on both sites and more exposure when our network submits event listings to CharlestonGOOD. A lot of us have talked for years about building a collaborative community calendar. Now we have one with an established infrastructure and audience. Let’s take advantage of this opportunity y’all! If you’ve got events related to nonprofits, social entrepreneurship, education, community development, civic engagement, public forums, fundraisers, charity, etc, please submit them and we’ll spread the word.

Since our calendar is now so much more robust, we are not going to be blogging about events. Instead we will be putting more of our enegry into posting on Facebook and Instagram and building these platforms that focus more on immediacy. We’ll still blog, but our focus will be more on serving our community partners.

Which brings us to our next update.

NEEDFISCAL500z

CharlestonGOOD is now offering FISCAL SPONSORSHIP SERVICES in support of passionate community folks who want some of the benefits of partnering with a nonprofit instead of launching a nonprofit organization themselves. We have often suggested to folks that they should work with a fiscal sponsor only to find that when they asked around, they couldn’t find a partner to work with. So we decided we needed to step up and offer the service ourselves. As your fiscal sponsor, we can help make you eligible for grants and for accepting tax-free donations. To learn more, check it out and apply if you are interested in working with us.

By focusing on collaborations, we have freed up a lot of time to add more content to CharlestonGOOD.com, which means that one of our earliest visions for serving the Charleston community is finally coming true.

In working locally with both nonprofit folks and social entrepreneurs, we’ve figured out that our community of changemakers would benefit from a central information clearinghouse for news, perspectives and resources curated specifically to meet their unique needs. This is a big project but we are excited about what we have put together so far and are looking forward to getting lots of suggestions for additional content for our new CHANGEMAKERS HUB.

Since you have made it this far, we have one more special bit of breaking news to share.

commitgood-500

CharlestonGOOD is now partnering with CommitGood to help develop a new local charitable economy built on the blockchain. Simply put, CommitGood is “a transparent, charitable platform that rewards people for everyday transactions. [and] is dedicated to building a global charitable economy through the integration of marketplace features, fundraising and solving the last mile of delivery.” Yes, this is a mouthful and this endeavor is huge. But it all starts with us. Local nonprofits are invited to sign up on CommitGood.com and start registering projects that are in need of support. The process can seem a little daunting, so we will be hosting “SIGN-UP PARTIES” to facilitate getting folks on board. If you would like to be invited to a sign-up session, just contact us and mention that you are ready to start #collaborating4change

We’ve got some other good projects in the works so stay tuned …
