Do you know you ingest plastic everyday? Join us for a discussion around the issues of plastic pollution and its impacts on the marine environment and human health on Wednesday, February 17th. Located on rivers and the Atlantic Ocean, Charleston is a large contributor to plastics in our waterways. We will explore the magnitude of microplastics, how they travel through the food web, the marine and human health issues that correlate, as well as alternatives and solutions. Panelists include: Lia Colabello (Director of Global Partnerships & Community Engagement at The 5 Gyres Institute) Kea Payton (Marine Biology Grad Student at the College of Charleston) Abby G. Wenzel (M.S., PhD. Candidate in Marine Biomedicine and Environmental Science) We will be continuing this discussion through our DIY Workshop Series: Make Your Own Face Wash, happening on Friday, February 19th at 2pm in Robert Scott Small Building, 235. As always, attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch, but light and locally sourced snacks from GrowFood Carolina will be provided.
