Heroes of Health Science To Serve Lunch June 3 in North Charleston
Heroes of Health Science, a group of medical assisting students at ECPI University, will cook and serve lunch on June 3, 2015 from noon to 2 p.m. for the pay-as-you-can Destiny Community Cafe at Scott’s Grand Reception and Corporate Center, 5060 Dorchester Rd., North Charleston.
Charleston, SC (May 15, 2015) – Heroes of Health Science, a group of medical assisting students at ECPI University, are always on the look-out for ways to serve the needs of the community. When they heard about the Destiny Community Cafe initiative, a pay-what-you-can diner being launched by the Soul Food Foundation and Scott’s Grand Reception and Corporate Center, they wanted to be involved.
“We like to give back to the community in a variety of ways,” said Krista Rodgers, the Medical Assisting Faculty adviser to the group. “The students were excited to create a menu and volunteer to cook and serve for this worthy cause.”
The students are going to prepare and serve the lunch on June 3 at the Scott’s Grand Reception and Corporate Center, 5060 Dorchester Rd., North Charleston. Their menu will include chicken and rice, spaghetti, rotisserie chicken, string beans, broccoli, pasta salad, salad, dinner rolls, watermelon, pound cake, cookies, cupcakes (some sugar free cookies will be available), tea (sweet/unsweet) and lemonade.
Suggested price is $10, but diners can donate any amount they can afford. If you are unable to donate you may do volunteer work in exchange for your meal. The Destiny Community Cafe has partnered with the national One World Everyone Eats Foundation to bring awareness of food insecurity and lack of access to healthy foods throughout the world. It strives to use local organic produce, eliminate food waste daily, and provide nutritious versions of classic Southern cooking to everyone who comes in their doors.
