There is no doubt that crisis can bring out the best in some people. And this pandemic was no exception. Throughout the Lowcountry this year, folks raised money to help others with bills, made meals to help the hungry, donated to bail funds and set up mutual aid networks, and did countless other good deeds to support their neighbors in need.
Mutual aid has a long history in the US, and this visual history is a great way to connect our current crisis with those of the past, while also highlighting relatively ‘hidden’ history that deserves more notice.
